Biosafety

Strengthening biosafety standards and promoting safe research and diagnostic practices for vector-borne diseases in the Balkan region.

Continuous Objectives

  • Address emerging biosafety challenges and provide guidance for field and laboratory work in accordance with international standards.
  • Monitor relevant legislation and recommendations and regularly inform BAVBD members.
  • Promote biosafety activities and developments through professional networks, meetings, and conferences.

Short-Term Objectives

  • Obtain recognition as a Regional Member Association within the International Federation of Biosafety Associations (IFBA).
  • Establish collaboration with the European Biosafety Association (EBSA) as a partner organization.

Medium-Term Objectives

  • Map differences in legal frameworks affecting members’ activities and explore the development of a common minimum biosafety standard.
  • Assess biosafety practices among members and identify areas of expertise and specialization.
  • Develop a standardized biosafety manual and biorisk management system aligned with international standards.

Training and Capacity Building

  • Organize recurring biosafety and Good Microbiological Practice and Procedure (GMPP) training programs and workshops for BAVBD members.
